Ear Wax Removal
Ear wax removal using microsuction, with gentle low-pressure irrigation where appropriate, carried out by our trained team here at West Street Pharmacy.
Why Microsuction Is Preferred to Ear Syringing
- Much lower infection risk. A completely dry technique, with none of the trapped moisture that can cause infections after syringing.
- Ideal for hearing aid wearers. Aids make wax build up faster; microsuction keeps the canal clear so they work properly.
- Done under direct vision. We work with magnification and a light throughout, so it's precise and your eardrum stays safe.
- Suitable when syringing isn't. Often safe even with a perforated eardrum, past ear surgery, grommets or repeated infections (we'll always check first).
- Removes stubborn, impacted wax that water-based methods often can't shift.
- Quick, gentle and mess-free, with relief usually straight away.
Important: Please use olive oil drops 5 times a day for 5 days before your appointment (see below), if possible.

Olive Oil Drops Must Be Used First
Use olive oil ear drops 5 times a day for 5 to 7 days before your appointment, if possible. This softens the wax so we can remove as much as possible.
If you have not managed to use the drops as often, or for as long, we can still see you, but the wax will be drier and we may not be able to remove as much.
You can collect free ear drops from us when you book.
